Matter Residences – Connecting Your Home to the Internet of Things

Matter Residences is a new freehold condominium located at 7 Matter Road in District 14 Singapore. It comprises of 26 units. The project is a low-rise, 5-storey development designed by AGA Architects. It is well-connected to schools like Canossa Catholic Primary School, Geylang Methodist Primary School, and Macpherson Secondary School. Neighborhood grocery stores like NTUC Fairprice are also within walking distance. Residents can enjoy a variety of amenities and restaurants at nearby Sims Vista Market & Food Centre and 80 Circuit Road market & food centre.

The brains behind your Matter network are called controllers and they onboard devices to your home, manage communications, automate actions, and facilitate remote access when needed. They communicate over Wi-Fi or, if necessary, the internet through Ethernet connections. Because Matter is meant to work alongside existing smart home standards, many of the biggest names in smart tech have announced their own controllers that can act as bridges to other ecosystems and voice assistants.

Most of the first Matter-compatible devices are smart lights, plugs and switches, though there are also compatible locks, sensors, thermostats and other products coming soon. The CSA says it will eventually add support for security cameras too, although the details of that aren’t clear yet. Apple’s HomeKit framework contributed to Matter, so its own HomeKit Secure Video feature may be a part of that too.

Many of the devices mentioned above will upgrade to Matter via an over-the-air firmware update, but some require more significant hardware changes. Philips Hue (Signify) and Yale both have swappable modules for their smart locks, for instance, while Eve’s smart plugs will need to be replaced with new ones that have Thread radios. matter residences
