League of Legends Lecture

League of Legends Lecture is a course where students explore and analyze League of Legends, a popular video game, through multiple lenses. These include gameplay, eSports, psychology, and game design. Students will also use League of Legends as a vehicle to develop critical thinking skills and apply them to real-life situations in their professional careers and personal lives.

Before there were millions of players or billions in revenue, before there were esports tournaments with 100 million spectators, League of Legends was just an idea – a concept and a design document. Co-founder Marc Merrill and his team spent the next decade down a road “punctuated by terror and wild leaps of faith.”

A good League of Legends player is a master of their champion’s abilities, the gameplay mechanics of last-hitting minions, and the metagame. But even when a champion is mastered, there are still endless facets of the game to learn. This includes understanding how a champion’s items massively boost their power, and choosing the best combinations of items for the situation at hand.

Attempting to learn all of these facets while spamming solo queue is not only ineffective, but it can be downright toxic. Players who spam solo queue tend to repeat the same mistakes over and over, thereby sabotaging their own progress. This is why learning to improve at League of Legends requires a mentality similar to that of achieving top levels in chess or competitive sports: start by understanding the fundamentals. 롤대리
