How to Use the Upload Files Feature on WordPress

Upload Files is a website feature that allows users to submit files, like images and videos, through the website. Once the files are uploaded, they can be accessed by other users. This can be a useful feature for websites that host content, like job application documents or blog posts. It can also be a helpful feature for online storefronts, where users might want to share their product images or videos with other customers.

In order to use the Upload Files feature, the user must have an account that is at least an unconfirmed contributor. Generally, accounts become confirmed automatically after 10 edits and four days have passed since the account was created. If a user needs to upload files before this time, they should use an alternative method to verify their account.

When creating a post, the user can click the Upload Files button in the Rich Editor to begin the process of uploading a file. This will prompt the browser’s file explorer to open, where the user can locate and select the file they would like to upload. Once the file has been successfully uploaded, the user will see a link to it, which can be clicked to download it.

The uploading process can be slow and depending on the size of the file, may take a minute or two to finish. The user can then edit the file as they would any other post, such as a discussion, idea, poll, or event. In addition to the Upload Files feature, the Rich Editor also supports the ability to embed video and image content using a special code that is generated by the browser. This is the same code that can be used to display a YouTube video or an image from a Google Maps location.

Once the file is uploaded, it can be accessed from anywhere the user has an internet connection. Depending on the file type, it may also be possible to download the file or view its details and description. In some cases, the file can be copied to the clipboard and pasted into another program for further editing or processing.

While the Upload Files feature is a great way to allow users to easily submit information, it can also pose security risks. For this reason, it is important to set up a whitelist of accepted file types and scan all uploaded files for viruses. It is also a good idea to implement SSL encryption, which will protect all data that is transmitted between the web server and the user’s browser.

In addition to being able to upload files, the Files page can be filtered by saved filters and is sorted by most recently added. The user can then view the results in either a list or grid format. In addition, the user can sort the files by size or by alphabetically by file name. Files can also be renamed and deleted from this page. Saved filter views are displayed as tabs at the top of the Files page.
